David Cary
The Intersection of Philanthropy & Business

David Cary’s presentation is titled “The Intersection of Philanthropy and Business.” He assists entrepreneurial families with building and exiting their businesses; responsible management of their philanthropic efforts; and creative strategies for blending the above for greater impact – what David refers to as “amplify your heart.” His presentation will be about how being the largest population in the workforce, Millennials decide where to work and where to shop based on what a company does to improve the world, and corporations are feeling the pressure to adapt.  Nonprofits are not safe either, as Millennials don’t make large donations as their parents and grandparents have.  David's  talk explains this change, and how your company can not just adapt but thrive in one of the largest social shifts the U.S. has seen in decades.

The first in his family to graduate college, David has his undergraduate degree in Accounting and MBA in Finance. His career began as the first full-time accounting employee of a startup in computer software retailing which pioneered the computer superstore concept. David and his wife, Valerie, have been married since 1987 and have three grown children – a CPA, a software engineer and a college student. Their middle child has experienced two heart transplants and cancer, so David speaks and writes about surviving and appreciating life’s challenges. He enjoys travel, exercise, writing, cooking and not cleaning the kitchen afterwards.
